Meet the team - Olivia Fallows

The team at Weatherbys perform a wide variety of roles, and every day is different for our people. Come with us as we take you behind the scenes and hear first hand from some of our people in this "meet the team" series. In this instalment, get to know our Naming Executive, Olivia Fallows.

When did you start working for Weatherbys and what was it that drew you to the company originally?

I joined Weatherbys Limited in June 2023 after finishing my degree in Equine Science. After a few other jobs I decided cold winters working outside were not for me, so an office job working in the industry seemed the perfect idea! I started in the sponsorship team before moving over to naming after three months. I find the work-life balance is for me, allowing me to still be involved in the Thoroughbred industry in my working life while enjoying my horse hobbies at the end of the day!

How would you describe the company culture and values?

Everyone within the business is very friendly and welcoming, always willing to give assistance and guidance in areas that I’m getting more and more involved in. It’s challenging and there’s always something different – particularly in the naming department – and we all try and ensure we’re communicating clearly and openly with the customer at all times.

What’s your proudest achievement or moment in your time at Weatherbys?

I was proud to be given the responsibility of naming after just a few months working for the business, and it’s particularly rewarding going through the racecards and picking out all of the horses that I’ve named! I take the responsibility seriously and enjoy seeing all the creative and well-named horses coming through the ranks. The process took a bit of getting used to, but now I fully understand it and getting to that point was fulfilling.

What is one thing people may not know about your role and one thing people may not know about Weatherbys?

The naming team approve all incoming horses from abroad, not just those born in Great Britain and Ireland, and they’re all subject to the same checks to make sure there are no confusions in the administration of racing and breeding. We do have instances where we have horses from different countries with the same name, so the suffix becomes the identifying factor for all of these horses!

What excites you most about the future of Weatherbys?

The system developments we have in the pipeline will help us to provide more informative and relative customer service. In the naming team, we’ll soon be hoping to provide more detailed information to customers about naming applications and this will help them to be better prepared when applying for names and dealing with queries.
