GB Regulations
Weatherbys administers the import and export of all Thoroughbreds in and out of Great Britain.
The transfer of information between Stud Book Authorities is key for the purpose of integrity and traceability. Before a horse can race or breed in Great Britain, or in another country, the correct documentation needs to have been completed and processed.
Any horse permanently imported into Great Britain must have an Export Certificate filed with Weatherbys within 90 days of their arrival, in order to be eligible to race or breed in Great Britain.
When a horse is being permanently imported into Great Britain, a shipper will need to apply to the country of export for the official Export Certificate to be lodged with Weatherbys.
Similarly, where a horse is to be permanently exported from Great Britain, the shipper will need to apply for the Export Certificate to be sent from Weatherbys to the country of destination.
If travelling from Great Britain by sea, an Animal Health Act Certificate may also be required.
