Since the 18th century different coloured and patterned silks have been worn by jockeys.  

You can request your preferred silk design, and our team double check it against our registered database before approving it and adding it to your profile so it can be used in racing.

Each owner has their own unique set of silks, which can be made up of a huge variety of colours, shapes and designs.  

There are over 26,000 unique combinations available, with 25 standard designs and 18 different colours, but owners can let their creativity run wild and design anything (within reason!)

For owners who like to be imaginative with their silks, bespoke colours can be created. For £5,000 you could pretty much have whatever you like as a silk design, and plenty of owners have taken this offer up.  

An owner can design their silks via the Colours Builder, which remain owned and protected for 10 years.  

Colours availability can be checked either through the BHA website or the Racing Administration System.
